UFC cuts Jon Fitch, 15 others

Many MMA fans were surprised to hear that top-ten welterweight Jon Fitch was officially released from the UFC today. The former title challenger had only earned one win in his last four fights for the promotion. A day prior, lightweight Jacob Volkmann’s release was announced. He had gone 6-4 in his UFC run, going 1-2 in his last three.

Bellator 90 weigh-in results

Thursday’s Bellator 90 event is official with all but one fighter making weight for the event. Chase Beebe was unable to reach the bantamweight limit for his fight with Travis Marx and the contest has been changed to a 138-pound catchweight. Featherweight Shahbulat Shamhalaev also missed the mark on his first try, but successfully made weight on his second attempt.

Bellator Season 8 lightweight and welterweight tournaments to be held in Maine

Marcin Held faces Dave Jensen for the lightweight tournament championship at the March 21 event. The welterweight tournament champion will also be declared at the event between the eventual final two participants.

Also, Brett Rogers will be competing for his first win under the Bellator banner against Eric Prindle. Travis Wiuff will compete at heavyweight against Coloradan Ryan Martinez and the preliminaries will be headlined by a welterweight fight between veterans Marcus Davis and Waachiim Spiritwolf, the latter in his promotional debut.

Bellator: Jensen vs. Held takes place March 21 from Maine’s Androsoggin Colisee. The preliminary card airs live and free on Spike.com at 7:30 ET, and the main card will be broadcaster live on Spike TV at 10 p.m. ET.

Ryan Bader vs. Glover Texeria booked for UFC 160

TUF season 8 winner Ryan Bader is set to face Glover Texeria at the May 25 event from Las Vegas.

Also planned for UFC 160 is a heavyweight title and second meeting of Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva. Former Strikeforce lightweight KJ Noons makes his UFC debut against Donald Cerrone and Amir Sadalloh meets Stephen Thompson.

One FC bantamweight grand prix semifinals announced

Dubbed “ONE FC 8: Kings and Champions,”the event will hold the two bantamweight semifinals matches with veteran Jens Pulver vs. Masakatsu Ueda and Kevin Belingon vs. Thanh Vu. The winner of the tournament will face champion Soo Chul Kim for the belt.

ONE FC 8 takes place April 5 from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. The preliminary portion of the card will be free to view and the main event can be viewed for a charge of $9.99 via online pay-per-view at www.onefc.livesport.tv.

Dakota FC 15 gets Jordan Nicole Gaza vs. Amber Stautzenberger

Straweight fighters Gaza and Stautzenberger have come back from losses to Paige Van Zant to each recording submission victories, and will now meet at the April 20 event.

Dakota FC 15 takes place April 20 from Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D.
