Silva vs. Weidman likely for July A suitor for Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight championship may have been found as it is being reported that Chris Weidman will get his shot at the title if everything goes to plan. The fight would happen during the promotions annual fourth of July weekend card, which is usually one of the strongest cards that the promotion holds each year. This year, it could happen on July 6. “The Spider” fought on the Independence Day weekend card last year as he successfully defended his title against Chael Sonnen for the second time. He followed that performance up with a quick turnaround fight at light heavyweight against Stephan Bonnar in October, making his record in the UFC a perfect 16-0. However, Weidman has been on the shelf for a while due to injuries. “The All-American” is perfect in his career with a 9-0 record, winning five of those fights inside the Octagon. His last time out, Weidman scored a nasty knockout of Mark Munoz in the second round of their fight.
