Sara McMann makes UFC debut against Sheila Gaff at UFC 159

Olympic silver medalist and undefeated MMA combatant Sara McMann will make her Octagon debut at UFC 159 against 23-year-old German fighter Sheila Gaff.

McMann has reeled off six straight wins since transitioning to MMA from the world of wrestling. She most recently edged Shayna Baszler by controversial decision under the Invicta banner.

Gaff enters the UFC on the heels of wins over Aisling Daly and Jennifer Maia in Cage Warriors. All 10 of her wins are via stoppage.

UFC 159 takes place April 27 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. It will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.

Gunnar Nelson meets Mike Pyle at UFC 160

The UFC’s annual Memorial Day weekend event in Las Vegas has added a welterweight contest between undefeated Icelandic fighter Gunnar Nelson and longtime veteran Mike Pyle.

Nelson carries with him an undefeated record of 11-0, including two straight in the Octagon.

Pyle is riding a three-fight winning streak and is looking to move up the 170-pound ladder with another win.

The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title tilt between current champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The pair met last May, with Velasquez scoring a vicious TKO win. The MGM Grand Garden Arena hosts the event on May 25.

UFC on FX 8 adds Paulo Thiago vs. Lance Benoist

Brazil’s UFC on FX 8 card will include a welterweight contest between Paulo Thiago and Lance Benoist.

Both fighters are in desperate need of a win, as Thiago is just 1-4 over his last five bouts and Benoist is riding a two-fight losing streak.

The May 18 event takes place from the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina. The card is headlined by a middleweight clash between former UFC champion Vitor Belfort and former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold. It airs live on FX.

Robbie Lawler inks new UFC contract

Fresh off a first-round stoppage win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 157, veteran welterweight Robbie Lawler has signed a new multi-fight deal with the promotion.

Lawler bounced between a number of major promotions throughout his career, including Pride, the IFL, EliteXC and most recently Strikeforce.

Canadian Jason MacDonald calls it a career

After more than 40 fights, 37-year-old Canadian welterweight Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald is hanging up his gloves.

The veteran compiled a record of 25-16, including a 6-8 record inside the UFC Octagon.

Nineteen of the fighter’s career wins came via submission.
