Cormier-Nelson set at UFC 166 co-headliner

Daniel Cormier publicly asked for Roy Nelson to re-up with the UFC simply because he wanted to fight him. Now, he gets the opportunity to do so in the co-headliner of UFC 166, which emanates live from Houston on Oct. 19. The pay-per-view event features Cormier’s training partner and UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in the headliner against familiar foe and former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos.

Bellator MW tournament field set for Sept. 9

Bellator MMA returns with four quarterfinal fights in the season nine’ middleweight tournament field. Season eight runner-up Brett Cooper faces Andreas Spang, while Dan Cramer squares off against Perry Filkins,, Brian Rogers  fights Mikkel Parlo, and  Jason Butcher  welcomes Giva Santana back to the Bellator tournament field. The winner of the tournament will book a future bout for the Bellator middleweight championship, which hangs in the balance in that Sept. 9 card’s headliner of champion Alexander Shlemenko vs. Doug Marshall.

CWFC planning to add four women’s divisions

Cage Warriors provided a platform for the world to get their taste of Joanne Calderwood, Aisling Daly, Sheila Gaff, Rosi Sexton and others, but now the promotion will look to take their promotion of women’s MMA to another level. Cage Warriors announced the signing of 18 different female fighters across four different weight classes.  The promotion plans on establishing divisions in the  women’s atomweight, strawweight, flyweight and bantamweight divisions, as well as inevitably developing a featherweight division.

Two bouts added to UFC Fight Night 28

Francisco Trinaldo and Joao Zeferino will represent their home country when UFC Fight Night 28 comes to Belo Horizonte on Sept. 4. Zeferino will see welterweight action on the heels of a tough loss to Rafael Natal at UFC on FX 7 against Kenny Robertson, who lost a decision to Sean Pierson at UFC 161. Meanwhile, Trinaldo stays in the lightweight division and carries a two-fight streak into a planned bout with UFC newcomer Piotr Hallman. Hallman, a Polish product, rides a nine-fight streak into this bout with Trinaldo on hostile soil.

Pellegrino, DeBlass and two Bellator tourney finals on Nov. 15

Tom DeBlass and Kurt Pellegrino will return to action when Bellator MMA hits Atlantic City on Nov. 15. The two New Jersey natives look for their second win in the promotion, and while Pellegrino knows he must finish Saul Almeida to get that second win, DeBlass’s opponent remains a mystery. Nevertheless, the bout card also plans to feature the finals of the promotion’s featherweight and welterweight tournaments.
