Bellator announces “Tournament Champion Replacement” clause

A new clause will ensure that all of Bellator’s defending world champions will see an opponent across the cage from them if a recent tournament champion cannot compete due to injury. The clause introduces the idea of a point system and a voting ballot, with tournament winners gaining one point for each decision win, two points for each third-round finish, three points for each second-round finish, and four points for each first-round finish. Current Bellator tournament winners, along with current Bellator world champions and Bellator executives, will vote on a final challenger, who will then replace the injured challenger and face off against the champion of the division in question.

RFA 9 gets Mocco vs. Polley

Steve Mocco expected to put an undefeated 2-0 mark against James Wilson at RFA 9: Munhoz vs. Curran event, which will emanate from the StubHub Center in Los Angeles, and air live on AXS TV on Friday, but an injury will force Wilson from the bout. Hence, Lew Polley will fill in for Wilson and combat Mocco. Polley will fight for the first time in 2013 when he faces Mocco, though Polley will not come off much of a layoff. In fact, Polley planned on seeing light-heavyweight action at last weekend’s WSOF 4 card, but missed weight substantially for the bout.
