Grant injured, Pettis-Thomson headlines UFC on Fox 9

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will see action at UFC on Fox 9 in Sacramento, but an injury will prevent TJ Grant from standing across the cage from him. Josh Thomson, who defeated Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 7, has stepped in for Grant. Pettis, who won the title from Benson Henderson at UFC 164, will look to make the first successful defense of his newly-won belt.

Herman-Natal, Figueroa-Perez added to UFC 167

Middleweights Ed Herman and Rafael Natal join bantamweights Edwin Figueroa and Erik Perez on November’s UFC 167 fight card. Herman and Natal both come off of wins in recent “Fight of The Night’ performances, while Perez and Figueroa look to rebound from recent losses. Both fights will likely see preliminary-card status, though whether or not they will air on Fox Sports 1 remains unknown.

ONE FC announces amateur MMA series

ONE FC has announced the launch of its ONE Asia Amateur MMA Series, set to stand as the largest platform for amateur MMA fighters to compete against other top amateurs. The amateur MMA series will feature amateur events held across Asia, as part of ONE FC’s continued emphasis on growing the sport of MMA in Asia. The series also intends to provide opportunities for the MMA talent to develop via existing amateur events across the entire region, which will in turn provide increased exposure to the events.

Hawn, Keslar enter Bellator season-nine WW tourney

Rick Hawn will return to the Bellator welterweight field as part of their season nine tournament, replacing Mark Scanlon. Hawn, coming off of a run in the season-six lightweight tournament now faces Herman Terrado, while Ron Keslar now faces Luis “Sergio Junior” Melo.  Keslar replaces recently retired Matt Riddle.

CWFC lightweight tournament, Kelly vs. Stephens set

The successor to “The Notorious” Conor McGregor’s Cage Warriors lightweight throne will emerge after Cage Warriors 60 which takes place at The Forum in Kentish Town, London, England on Saturday, Oct. 5.  Jason Ball , Ivan Buchinger, Stevie Ray and Mick Sinclair will participate in this tournament with Buchinger facing Sinclair and Ball facing Ray. The winners will square off in the evening’s headliner.

Also, Hannah Stephens and debuting Amanda Kelly will square off in a women’s bantamweight bout. Both Muay Thai practitioners will look to make an impact in the promotion’s 10th women’s MMA bout of 2013. Whether this bout will see main-card status remains unknown.
