UFC Signs Top Featherweight Competitor Tatsuya Kawajiri

The UFC continued to bolster its’ featherweight division by signing Tatsuya Kawajiri. He is expected to make his UFC debut on the UFC’s Jan. 4 card which takes place in Singapore. Kawajiri sports a 32-7- record and holds victories over notable names like Josh Thomson, JZ Cavalcante, Joachim Hansen and Yves Edwards.

“Crusher” is a perfect 4-0 since dropping to featherweight and hasn’t lost since 2011 when he challenged Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce lightweight title.

UFC 166 Medical Suspensions

Three fighters from UFC 166’s main card received indefinite suspensions following Saturday night’s action. Tim Boetsch, Shawn Jordan, and to no surprise, Junior dos Santos will be out for quite some time. Also surprising is Cain Velasquez has been suspended until April 18 for a possible broken jaw.

The full UFC 166 medical suspensions are as follows:

Junior dos Santos: Suspended indefinitely pending clearance from an ear, nose and throat doctor
Shawn Jordan: Suspended indefinitely pending clearance from an ear, nose and throat doctor
Tim Boetsch: Suspended indefinitely pending clearance from an ophthalmologist
Cain Velasquez: Suspended until April 18 due to possible broken jaw
Diego Sanchez: Suspended until Jan. 18 due to cuts
Darrell Montague: Suspended until Jan. 18 for precautionary reasons
T.J. Waldburger: Suspended until Jan. 18 for precautionary reasons
Nate Marquardt: Suspended until Dec. 19 for precautionary reasons
Andre Fili: Suspended until Dec. 19 due to cuts

UFC Adds Former DEEP Lightweight Champion Katsunori Kikuno

The UFC added former DEEP lightweight champ Katsunori Kikuno. The Japanese native is a black belt in judo and kyokushin karate. Kikuno sports a 21-5-2 overall record and is riding a five-fight winning streak that includes four first-round finishes. Although UFC officials haven’t announced when Kikuno will compete, odds are he will be added to the upcoming Jan. 4 card that occurs in Singapore.

Bellator Adds a Trio of Brazilian Fighters

Bellator has signed a trio of Brazilian fighters as part of their partnership with Prime Fighters Management. Included in the signings were Diego Marlon, Cleiton Duarte, and featherweight phenom Julio Cesar “Morceguinho” Neves. “Morceguinho” is the highlight of the batch of signings and brings a 28-0 record to the Bellator cage.
