Domick Cruz vs. Renan Barao will be the official main event for UFC 169 while a featherweight title contest between Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas will serve as the co-main event. The reasoning behind this is due to the “champion vs. champion” nature of Cruz-Barao.

Cruz hasn’t fought since 2011 while Barao hasn’t lost since  his first professional fight. The fight will unify the UFC bantamweight titles. Aldo entered the UFC as champion by virtue of his victories in WEC and hasn’t lost inside the Octagon. Lamas meanwhile is riding a four-fight winning streak.
