“Jacare” vs. Carmont Set as UFC Fight Night 36 Co-Main Event

A middleweight contest between former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Francis Carmont has been pegged as the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 36. Souza is coming off perhaps his biggest victory after knocking out perennial top 10 middleweight Yushin Okami. Carmont meanwhile has yet to taste defeat in the Octagon and comes from the renowned Tri Star gym.

UFC Fight Night 36 takes place Feb. 15 at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. The scheduled main event pits former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida against former Strikeforce and DREAM champion, Gegard Mousasi.

Matthew Riddle Out of Nov. 22 Fight; Cut From Bellator

Matthew Riddle’s return to MMA looks to be clinging to its final breath. Riddle suffered a rib injury and was forced to withdraw from the Season 9 Welterweight Tournament. The promotion gave Riddle another chance on the Nov. 22 card but Riddle informed Bellator that he would not be competing on that card either.

The promotion decided to cut ties with the former UFC veteran and it is unclear where Riddle goes from here.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Debut Sets Season’s Second Highest Ratings

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s Bellator debut was not only a success in the cage but outside it as well. Bellator 108 drew 793,000 viewers. Jackson was able to pick up a win over former UFC vet Joey Beltran by first round TKO. During the quarter hour featuring “Rampage,” 1.1 million viewers tuned in with the cap being at 1.2 million viewers for Jackson’s debut.

The ratings represent the second best of Bellator’s current season behind the card headlined by the Eddie Alvarez-Michael Chandler rematch.

World Series of Fighting Announces Signing of Heavyweight and Welterweight 

The World Series of Fighting promotion has signed heavyweight Scott “The Bear” Barret and Valdir Araujo. Barrett is a heavyweight fighter currently training with the famed Blackzillians and holds a record of 13 wins against three defeats. Nine of Barrett’s victories have come via first round knockout.

Araujo is a Brazilian who now lives in Florida has fought UFC champion Chris Weidman and Marcelo Alfaya and holds a professional record of 14 wins and four losses. Both fighters are expected to make their WSOF debuts in 2014.

Damien Rooney and Marcin Lasota Sign with Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has announced the signing of Marcin Lasota and Damien Rooney. Both men signed five-fight deals and will compete for the minimum period of 18 months. Lasota is 7-0 after making his professional debut two years ago. Rooney’s record stands at 9-3-1 and will be making his featherweight debut along with his CWFC debut.

Barry Meyer to be Named Chairman Emeritus at Nov. 29 Tuff-N-Enuff Event

Barry Meyer, the founder and longtime president of Tuff-N-Enuff, will be named Chairman Emeritus during the Nov. 29 event, which will place at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas. Meyer passed away unexpectedly in October but saw his promotion become of the premier amateur promotions in the country.
