UFC 168 delivers second-best live gate in Las Vegas history

UFC 168 did the second-best live gate out of any event ever held in the city of Las Vegas, trailing only behind that of UFC 148. For this card, which saw Chris Weidman retain his UFC middleweight title against Anderson Silva, 15,650 spectators filled the MGM Grand Garden Arena, thus generating a gate totaling $6,238,792.50. 1,076 ticked went comped for the card, but no ticket went unsold for the monumental year-end card.

UFC 170 gets Sampo vs. Makovsky

UFC 170 returns to Las Vegas in seven weeks with a battle of unbeaten fighters, as UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defends her gold against fellow undefeated bantamweight and former Olympian Sara McMann, but now the card packs flyweight action as well. Zach Makovsky, fresh off of his UFC on Fox 9 win over Scott Jorgensen, will face Joshua Sampo, who defeated Ryan Benoit at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale but lost out on his end of the “Fight of The Night” bonus due to missing weight. The bout’s placement on the card remains in question, though air time on the Fox Sports 1 preliminary portion of the card seems likely.

Dennis Bermudez will draw his next foe at UFC 171 in Dallas, as will The Ultimate Fighter 18 winner Julianna Peña. Peña, fresh off her win over Jessica Rakoczy, will come to the American Airlines Center to meet Jessica Andrade, who comes off of a vicious victory over Rosi Sexton. Meanwhile, Bermudez owns a streak of five straight wins ever since losing to Diego Brandao at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale.
