Bellator 111 set to host 135-pound title bout, heavyweight quarterfinals

Bellator is set to return to action this March with its 10th season of competition.  Bellator 111 will take place on Friday, March 7, in Thackerville, Okla.  In the main event, the promotion’s bantamweight title will be on the line as Eduardo Dantas battles Rafael Silva.  Dantas first captured the title by taking down Zach Makovsky at Bellator 65, and successfully defended it against Marcos Galvao at Bellator 89.  On the other side, Silva won the 2013 Summer Series tournament by taking down Rodrigo Lima and Anthony Leone to earn the title shot.

In addition to the title fight, the main card will feature the first round of the heavyweight tournament that will take place in season 10.  The first round of the tournament will feature Ryan Martinez taking on Lavar Johnson, Peter Graham meeting “Mighty Mo” Siliga, Alexander Volkov going up against Mark Holata, and Blagoi Ivanov fighting Rich Hale.

“Rumble” Johnson one win away from title shot

The ante has been upped for Anthony Johnson as he heads into his upcoming fight with Mike Kyle at World Series of Fighting 8 next weekend.  Promotional president Ray Sefo confirmed today that if he wins that fight that he will fight for a title in his next fight inside the promotion’s ten-sided cage.

However, the news comes with some additional background information.  Ever since “Rumble” was let go by the UFC, he has gone 3-0 in the WSOF, and he currently has one fight remaining on his contract.  With the title shot in the foreground, it could keep him with the promotion rather than potentially moving elsewhere after this fight.

WSOF 8 takes place in Hollywood, Fla., on Jan. 18.
