Alexander Shlemenko to defend title at Bellator 114

Alexander Shlemenko will once again defend his middleweight title when he meets Brennan Ward at Bellator 114.

This will be Shlemenko’s third defense of his middleweight crown, defending it last at Bellator 109 this past November. Shlemenko defeated Doug Marshall via first-round knockout.

Ward won the season nine Bellator Middleweight Tournament racking up wins against Justin Torrey, Joe Pacheco and Mikkel Parlo. Ward is on a four-fight winning streak and is 5-1 overall under the Bellator banner.

The card will also feature Rad Martinez’s return to Bellator after a full year off when he faces Edson Berto in a featherweight tussle. Martinez last fought in February of 2013 when he lost in the semi-finals of the season seven Bellator Featherweight Tournament to Shahbulat Shamhalaev.

Bellator 114 will air on Spike TV from the Maverik Center in  Salt Lake City, Utah on March 28.

ONE FC Signs Six Fighters

ONE FC has furthered bolster their roster by signing six fighters from flyweight to heavyweight.

The most notable names heading to ONE FC includes M-1 Global featherweight champion, Marat Gafurov and top Australian featherweight, Rob Lisita.

Other fighters included in the signing are heavyweight Kelvin Fitial, flyweight Kentaro Watanabe, welterweight Kultar Gill and Martin Nguyen.

ONE FC’s next event will be on March 14 called ONE FC: War of Nations. The card will take place at Stadium Negara in Malaysia.

Kyoji Horiguchi Injured, Dropped from UFC 169

Kyoji Horiguchi will no longer be fighting next month at UFC 169 having been forced out of his fight with Chris Cariaso due to injury. Horiguchi is riding a six-fight winning streak, coming off of a win over Dustin Pague at UFC 166.

Replacing Horiguchi will be Danny Martinez who once fought in the WEC. Martinez is 16-4 and is on a three-fight winning streak.

UFC 169 takes place on Feb. 1 in Newark, N.J. at the Prudential Center. The fight is headlined by a bantamweight rematch for the title between current champion, Renan Barao and Urijah Faber. The co-main event is a featherweight title tussle between champion Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas.
