On Saturday, Jan. 18, World Series of Fighting hosted its eighth event from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

In the night’s main event, the promotion’s inaugural lightweight title was on the line as the undefeated Justin Gaethje clashed with Rich Patishnock. Gaethje earned his place in the title tilt with three straight wins in the WSOF cage over Gesias Cavalcante, Brian Cobb and Dan Lauzon. For Patishnock, wins over Igor and Gregor Gracie helped him punch his ticket to the championship contest.

The night’s co-main event featured a pair of big show veterans as hard-hitting light heavyweights Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Mike Kyle locked horns. Johnson looked to extend his winning streak to six fights since his UFC release in early 2012. Kyle hoped to get back in the win column after dropping his promotional debut against Andrei Arlovski in September.

A second title was up for grabs at the event as the promotion hosted its first women’s bout between consensus No. 1-ranked strawweight Jessica Aguilar and Alida Gray. The Bellator veteran Aguilar carried a seven-fight winning streak into the title clash, while Gray put her unblemished record on the line.

In all, the event featured 10 fights. The five-fight main card aired live on the NBC Sports Network beginning at 9 p.m. ET, while the five preliminary card bouts streamed live on the promotion’s website.
