Referee and judging assignments for UFC 169

The “third men” for the three bouts at the top of tomorrow’s UFC 169 bill have been declared and made official. Veteran referee Herb Dean will oversee the headliner of UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber, while Keith Peterson officiates the sixth consecutive title defense of UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo against Ricardo Lamas, and Dan Miragliotta will referee for a heavyweight bout pitting Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem against each other.

For Mir vs. Overeem, judges Michelle Agustin, Tony Tamburrino and Dave Tirelli will score the bout for its duration. Meanwhile, Cardo Urso, Eric Colon and former UFC fighter Ricardo Almeida will pull double-duty for both title fights.

UFC signs Blachowicz

KSW light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz announced news of his next move, which will come under the UFC banner. The Polish-born fighter holds a knack for finishing, especially by submission, and plans to put that skill-set to the test against some of the best in the world. Blachowicz’s resume includes wins over Christian M’Pumbu, Goran Reljic, Houston Alexander, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Fitch to get WSOF title shot against Carl-Palhares winner

Per WSOF executive vice-president Ali Abdel-Aziz, Jon Fitch’s quest for WSOF welterweight gold will come sooner than later. The only roadblock between Fitch and the gold will come in the form of the man who emerges from a scheduled WSOF 9 welterweight title fight between champion Steve Carl and challenger Rousimar Palhares as the undisputed titleholder. The date of Fitch’s impending title shot remains in question, but will likely be announced by the promotion sometime after the event.

Bellator fan favorite Ryan Martinez faces Lavar Johnson, Peter Graham contends with Mighty Mo, former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov contends with Mark Holata, and undefeated Blagoi Ivanov puts his 9-0 record against Rich Hale. Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas will put his belt up for grabs in the headliner when he faces Rafael Silva.
