Cerrone vs. Barboza Set for UFC on Fox 11

A lightweight battle between striking specialists Donald Cerrone and Edson Barboza is slated for UFC on Fox 11 in Orlando, Fla.

Cerrone is coming off a first-round head kick finish of Adriano Martins at UFC on Fox 10 in Chicago, while the Brazilian Barboza earned a majority decision win over Danny Castillo at UFC on Fox 9.

UFC on Fox 11 takes place from the Amway Center on April 19 and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne.

UFC 172 Gains Flyweight Bout Between Benavidez and Elliott

Recent flyweight title challenger Joseph Benavidez will look to get back in the win column on April 26 when he faces off with Tim Elliott.

Benavidez fell victim to current champion Demetrious Johnson in December, while Elliott stumbled against Ali Bagautinov at UFC 167.

UFC 172 takes place from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore and features a light heavyweight title clash between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira.

UFC 169 Medical Suspensions

Nine fighters from Saturday’s UFC 169 event have been suspended by the New Jersey Athletic Control Board. The nine do not include any of the fighters involved in the event’s twin title tilts.

The full list of suspensions:
-Jamie Varner: suspended 30 days for KO, suspended indefinitely pending CT head scan and neurological evaluation
-John Makdessi: suspended 60 days for facial lacerations
-Nick Catone: suspended indefinitely pending orthopaedic clearance of left knee
-Tom Watson: suspended indefinitely pending orthopaedic clearance of right elbow and right foot
-Al Iaquinta: suspended indefinitely pending orthopaedic evaluation of right knee. 30 days for left lateral brow laceration
-Kevin Lee: suspended indefinitely pending opthalmological clearance
-Rashid Magomedov: suspended indefinitely pending x-ray of left foot
-Tony Martin: suspended indefinitely pending MRI of left knee
-Neil Magny: suspended indefinitely pending x-ray skull/sinus, suspended 30 days with no contact

Rivera Breaks Hand, Assuncao Awaits Opponent for UFC 170

A broken hand has forced featherweight Francisco Rivera out of a planned UFC 170 bout with Raphael Assuncao.

No replacement has been named at this time.

UFC 170 takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Feb. 22 and is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Sara McMann.

Barry Reveals Return to Kickboxing

After recently announcing an extended “leave of absence” from MMA competition, former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry will return to kickboxing for the first time since 2007 under the WKA banner on March 22.

Following that bout, Barry is expected to join the fast-rising Glory promotion in May.

Eye’s UFC 166 Win Over Kaufman Overturned

Bantamweight Jessica Eye’s win over former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman in her promotion debut at UFC 166 has been overturned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to a no-decision.

The TDLR stated the Eye tested positive for a prohibited drug, was fined $1,875 and placed on a one-year, fully probated suspension.

According to the fighter, the suspension will not impact her scheduled bout with Alexis Davis at UFC 170 on Feb. 22.

Garcia Meets Howell at Legacy FC 29

Former UFC combatant Leonard Garcia will defend his featherweight title against Shane Howell on March 21 at Legacy FC 29.

The event will take place from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, Okla. and air live on AXS TV.
