Derrick Lewis vs. Jack May Added to UFC on Fox 11 Card

Two debuting heavyweights will face one another at UFC on Fox 11 as Derrick Lewis takes on Jack May. Lewis sports a 9-2 professional record and holds a win over UFC vet Jared Rosholt along with a loss to current UFC heavyweight Shawn Jordan.

May is undefeated at 7-0 with six of those wins coming by first-round KO/TKO stoppage.

UFC on Fox 11 takes place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. on April 19. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight tilt between Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum.

Bellator Returns to Canada with Bellator 119 in Ontario

Bellator MMA will return to Canada later this year as the promotion has announced Bellator 119 will take place at Ontario’s Casino Rama on May 9. The card will feature the finals of the upcoming Bellator heavyweight tournament and will feature John Allesio as well.

The Bellator Season 10 Heavyweight Tournament will feature Alexander Volkov, Mark Holata, Peter Graham, Mighty Mo, Ryan Martinez, Lavar Johnson, Rich Hale and Blagoi Ivanov. Alessio is slated for a lightweight contest that will be featured on the Spike.com portion of the card.

TDLR Confirms Jessica Eye Tested Positive for Cannabinoids

After having her win against Sarah Kaufman at UFC 166 overturned to a no-contest and being handed a fine along with a “fully probated suspension,” the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirmed that Jessica Eye tested positive for cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids are a chief component found in marijuana. Eye signed a settlement agreement with the TDLR on Jan. 15, 2014 in which she waived her right to appeal and agreed to the punishment handed down. However, Eye will be still be eligible to fight on the upcoming UFC 170 card pending her licensing by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Yancy Medeiros Fails Post-Fight Drug Test; Win Overturned

Yancy Medeiros defeated Yves Edwards by first-round KO at UFC Fight Night 31: Fight for the Troops 3 but will see his win overturned to a no-contest after failing a post-fight drug test. Medeiros tested positive for marijuana metabolites and will serve a 90-day suspension along with having to pass a drug test before being licensed again.

Given that Medeiros’ suspension concluded earlier this month, his scheduled bout against Joe Ellenberger at UFC 172 on April 26 will proceed as planned.

Ring of Combat Announces Chris Wade vs. Frankie Perez at ROC 48

Fresh off capturing the Ring of Combat lightweight title, Chris Wade will face Frankie Perez at ROC 48. ROC is billing the fight as the biggest since Chris Weidman facing Uriah Hall in terms of anticipation on the East Coast.

Wade sports a 6-1 overall record while Perez is undefeated at 8-0.

Nova Uniao Fighter Murdered, Police Officer is Lead Suspect

Nova Uniao fighter and teacher Luiz de Franca was gunned down Monday in his school and Iranildo, a lieutenant in the military police, is being looked at as the main suspect. Natal police chief Silvio Fernando said Felix couldn’t account for his activity Monday and had a “weak” alibi during questioning.

Felix was a former student who had been expelled due to his involvement in street fights. The assailant reportedly walked up to the academy, fired several shots with a .40-caliber pistol and fled on a motorcycle with another person.
