EFC Africa Middleweight Booto Guylain Dies

As a result of injuries sustained from a mixed martial arts fight that took place on Feb. 27, EFC middleweight Booto Guylain has passed away.

Guylain suffered severe head trauma as a result of his bout last Thursday at EFC Africa 27.  He was immediately stabilized by an on-site medical team and was transported to a hospital to receive further treatment for swelling and bleeding of the brain.  He received treatment from one of South Africa’s top neuro-surgical teams, but it was not enough as the fighter passed away.

Surviving by his wife and his son, Guylain was only 29 years old.  In his honor and memory, all fighters at the upcoming EFC Africa 28 will wear black armbands.

California Bans TRT

The California State Athletic Commission has followed suit after Nevada and Brazil recently banned testosterone-replacement therapy (TRT).

According to the commission, in order to receive a TRT exemption, fighters will soon require passing World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) tests.  This will create an “effective ban” on TRT.  Until these rules are solidified, no TRT applications will be granted in California.
