The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale on July 6 in Las Vegas has a main event.

Headlining the card will be the third meeting between former lightweight champions Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn. The pair serve as coaches on the 19th season of the UFC’s flagship reality series, The Ultimate Fighter.

Edgar and Penn have met twice before with the promotion’s lightweight title on the line. Edgar bested Penn via controversial decision in the pair’s first meeting at UFC 112 in 2010. Edgar then cruised to a lopsided decision win at UFC 118 later that year.

Since then, both fighters have had mixed results inside the Octagon.

Edgar went on to engage Gray Maynard in back-to-back wars that saw him retain the 155-pound title. However, Edgar would lose his belt to Benson Henderson in early 2012 and drop the subsequent rematch. The back-to-back losses prompted the New Jersey native to drop to featherweight, where he fell short against reigning champion Jose Aldo. At UFC 162 in July, Edgar got back in the win column with a “Fight of the Night” battle against Charles Oliveira.

Penn, meanwhile, moved back to welterweight following his losses to Edgar. He waxed former champion Matt Hughes in just 23 seconds, but has struggled ever since. The Hawaiian fought Jon Fitch to a draw before falling short on the scorecards to Nick Diaz and Rory MacDonald. The former two-division title holder will drop to featherweight for the first time in his career for his trilogy with Edgar.

The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale will take place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Sunday, July 6. The event will air live on Fox Sports 1.
