When the UFC announced that it had acquired the contracts of 11 strawweight fighters from Invicta FC in December, it was presumed that all of the 115-pound fighters would be participating in the upcoming, all-women’s installment of The Ultimate Fighter. The winner of the show’s 20th season will be crowned the promotion’s inaugural champion.

According to one report, the age of 20-year-old Paige VanZant will prevent her from taking part in the reality series. The show frequently involves alcohol and with VanZant being below the legal drinking age, it would mean that there are now six open slots on the show to be filled during April’s tryouts in Las Vegas. VanZant initially denied the report on her Twitter account, but has since pulled down her tweet.

The initial report stated that despite the change, VanZant will still be signed to the UFC. The fighter known as “12 Gauge” now trains out of Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif., and has compiled a 3-1 record in her brief professional career. Her lone loss came under the Invicta banner, as she dropped a unanimous decision to fellow UFC signee Tecia Torres at Invicta 4 in January of last year. She rebounded from the loss to submit Courtney Himes in April at BCP – Cage Wars 15.

TUF 20 will begin filming in May and will debut on Fox Sports 1 on Sept. 10. The full roster includes Invicta FC champ Carla Esparza, unbeaten Joanne Calderwood and scrappy Aussie Bec Rawlings, among others. The show will be coached by Gilbert Melendez and current lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Pettis and Melendez will fight for the 155-pound title in late 2014.
