Curran-Freire booked for Bellator 121

Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran’s long-awaited rematch with Patricio Freire will take place when Bellator MMA returns on June 6. Curran reclaimed the title last month by way of a fifth-round submission win over Daniel Straus. “Pitbull”, a mainstay of the Bellator MMA roster since his promotional debut in 2009, currently rides a four-fight winning streak.

“Venom” returns to Bellator, meets Rainey on May 17

Michael “Venom” Page will come back to Bellator MMA at Bellator 120, live on pay-per-view, and will get to kick off the promotion’s pay-per-view debut against a stiff competitor in Rickey Rainey. “The Sniper” comes in on the heels of a first-round knockout of Andy Murad. Meanwhile, Page last competed over a year ago for Super Fight League, scoring a submission win which added to the momentum of a spectacular Bellator debut.

Franklin meeting with ONE FC, discussing VP role

With the blessings of  UFC president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertita, former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin will move on with his next move, which may involve a vice-president position with ONE FC. Franklin confirmed that he will meet ONE FC officials to discuss an opportunity for Franklin to take on such a role, thus expanding ONE FC’s brand further. Further details could not be revealed beyond the confirmation of the meeting.

Four fights added to Bellator 120 preliminary card

The Spike TV portion of Bellator 120 has begun to develop as four bouts have been added to the preliminary billing. In featherweight action, Goiti Yamaguchi will face former Bellator featherweight tournament finalist Mike Richman, while Cheick Kongo comes fresh off of a recent loss to Vitaly Minakov to fight newcomer Eric Smith. Also, as a result of last night’s lightweight semifinal matchups, Patricky Pitbull will do battle with Marcin Held, with the winner getting a future shot at the Bellator lightweight title. Finally, Alexander Volkov meets Blagoi Ivanov in a heavyweight tournament final for a chance to meet Minakov in a future Bellator heavyweight title bout.

Bennett to serve as new NSAC director

In the wake of Keith Kizer’s resignation from the position as Nevada State Athletic Commission Director, Robert Bennett will now take over as the commission’s executive director. Bennett won unanimously by way of a 5-0 vote over fellow candidates Mike Martino and Jeffrey Mullen on Friday. Andy Foster, CSAC executive director was a finalist for the position as well, but withdrew his name on Thursday.
