After having his four-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Ali Bagautinov at UFC 169 earlier this year, top-ranked flyweight John Lineker will attempt to get back into the 125-pound title picture with a win over Alptekin Ozkilic at UFC Fight Night 45 this summer.

Currently sitting at No. 7 in the UFC’s flyweight rankings, Lineker has seen a largely successful UFC career get overlooked due to his continued difficulties on the scale. The hard-hitting Brazilian has missed the mark in half of his UFC bouts, and those troubles likely cost him a shot at the belt prior to his fight with Bagautinov. After seeing his striking game stifled by the strong grappling skills of his Dagestani opponent, Lineker will have the chance to right the ship and get back into the mix with a win over Ozkilic.

For Ozkilic, this fight represents a huge step up in competition compared to the two UFC opponents he’s fought thus far. A successful debut against Darren Uyenoyama got “The Turkish Delight” off to a solid start to his Octagon career, but a subsequent loss to undefeated newcomer Louis Smolka put any plans Ozkilic had of contending right away on the back burner. Currently sitting at 1-1 inside the Octagon, a win over Lineker would thrust Ozkilic into the top 15 of the division, but a loss could send the 28-year-old flyweight into a must win situation for his next fight.

UFC Fight Night 45 will take place at the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. on July 16. The main card and select prelims will air on Fox Sports 1, with the remaining prelims set for UFC Fight Pass. As announced earlier today, the event will be headlined by lightweights Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller.
