The injury bug has struck the UFC once again.

Former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has suffered a hand injury in training and is out of the TUF Brazil 3 Finale’s main event against Stipe Miocic.

The promotion has yet to formally announce dos Santos’ withdrawal from the event, thus no replacement for Miocic has been named at this time.

Dos Santos was looking to rebound from a second defeat to current champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 166 in October. The Brazilian defeated Velasquez by first-round knockout at the UFC’s first event on Fox in November of 2011, but was thoroughly dominated in the rematch at UFC 155 and the rubber match.

The once-beaten Miocic has steadily climbed up the heavyweight ladder, topping veterans Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga in his last two Octagon appearances. The 31-year-old former collegiate baseball player and wrestler’s lone loss came against Stefan Struve in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV 5 in late 2012. His recent wins have pushed his record to 5-1 within the promotion. As of now, the Ohio-based fighter is expected to remain on the card.

The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale takes place from the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in São Paulo, Brazil on May 31. It will feature the middleweight and heavyweight finals of the reality show. The night’s main card will air live on Fox Sports 1, while the night’s preliminary card will stream live on the promotion’s digital network, UFC Fight Pass.
