Shields scratched from bout against Fitch

It was supposed to be a match-up between two former UFC title contenders at World Series of Fighting 11, however an injury to Jake Shields has forced him to withdraw from his scheduled fight against Jon Fitch.

This match-up was the second scheduled bout for Fitch for this event, as his original opponent Rousimar Palhares was also forced to withdraw from the card as well.

WSOF 11 will take place on July 5, however a location for the card has not yet been announced.

Curran out at Bellator 121, card announced

Two-time Bellator featherweight champion Pat Curran has also been bit by the injury bug, as he is currently being sidelined due to a calf strain suffered during conditioning drills.  Unfortunately, the injury will keep Curran from defending his title against Patricio Freire at the upcoming Bellator 121 card, which was to take place during the promotion’s 2014 Summer Series.

Despite all of this, the show will still go on.  The promotion announced the fight card today:

Heavyweight: James Thompson (19-14) vs. Eric Prindle (8-5)
Light Heavyweight: Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (14-12) vs. Terry Davinney (10-6)
Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Opening Round: Austen Heidlage (6-1) vs. Philipe Lins (8-0)
Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Opening Round: Egidijus Valavicius (26-10) vs. Carlos Eduardo (11-3)
Featherweight: Stephen Banaszak (3-1) vs. Treston Thomison (7-2)
Middleweight: Joe Vedepo (15-8) vs. Cortez Coleman (10-5)
Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Opening Round: Rodney Wallace (20-8) vs. Kelly Anundson (7-2)
Light Heavyweight: Jamelle Jones (2-1) vs. Ray Sloan (6-0)
Catchweight (190lbs): Bubba McDaniels (21-8) vs. Matt Jones (4-7)
Catchweight (140lbs): Steve Garcia (3-0) vs. Cody Walker (3-1)
Welterweight: William Florentino (4-3) vs. Guillermo Martinez Ayme (6-0)

Bellator 121 will take place on June 6 in Thackerville, Okla.

Injury forces Yahya out against Bedford

San Antonio was supposed to host the rematch between Johnny Bedford and Rani Yahya, however the Brazilian has been forced off of the card due to an injury.

The two first met in April, however after an accidental headbutt ended the fight just 39-seconds into the bout, it was declared a no-contest.  A rematch made sense, however it is now an impossibility for it to happen in Texas.  Bedford will still fight on the card, as Cody Gibson has been assigned the task of taking on the Ohio-native.

UFC Fight Night 44 will take place on June 28.

Bellator makes splash in free agency

In an effort to keep up with the competition, Bellator has gone out and acquired some of the top veteran free agents on the market.

Light heavyweight Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will join the promotion, and make his debut at Bellator 121 early next month.  After fighting twice with the promotion, Tom DeBlass will also join the light heavyweight division as he signed a long term deal with Bellator as well.  Malik Merad will also join the 205-pound division, and look to extend his current winning streak of six-fights.

There was also an addition to the heavyweight division as well as the bantamweights, as 8-0 Dmitriy Sosnovsky joins the ranks of the heavyweight division, while Steve Garcia will join the 135 pounders.

Lightweight bout added to UFC on Fox 12

It will be Jorge Masvidal and Daron Cruickshank throwing the leather at one another at UFC on Fox 12, which has been announced today by the promotion.

Both fighters have been successful as of late, as Cruickshank is 3-1 in his last four, winning the last two by knockout.  On the other hand, Masvidal has gone 4-1 in his last five.

UFC on Fox 12 will take place from San Jose, Calif. on July 26.

Additionally, the scheduled bout between Liam James and Nad Narimani has been scrapped as both fighters are injured.

CWFC 69 takes place on June 7 in London, England.
