One of the most anticipated rematches in recent UFC history has a date and location.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will put his belt on the line against Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 177 in Las Vegas on Aug. 30.

The pair met previously at UFC 165 in September of 2013 with Jones retaining his 205-pound title via unanimous decision in what most considered the “Fight of the Year.” The decision was filled with controversy as many felt that the towering Swede had done enough to claim the championship.

Since their first meeting, Jones has fought just once. The Jackson’s MMA product edged Brazilian Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 in April, also on the scorecards. The win moved the 26-year-old’s record to 20-1 and marked his seventh consecutive title defense.

Gustafsson, meanwhile, got back in the win column in March, scoring a second-round TKO over England’s Jimi Manuwa. The 27-year-old had pleaded for the rematch with Jones to take place in his native Sweden, but it appears that the UFC has decided against it.

As of right now, only Gustafsson has officially agreed to the bout. However, UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta is confident that Jones will sign on for the highly anticipated rematch.

UFC 177 will take place from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 30. The night’s main card will air live on pay-per-view, with prelims split between a Fox Sports 1 broadcast and a live stream on UFC Fight Pass. No other match-ups for the event are rumored at this time.
