Three fights added to UFC Fight Night 49

The card for UFC Fight Night 49 is starting to take shape as three fights have been added to the card today, including a top welterweight contest.  Thiago Alves will battle Jordan Mein in a 170-pound fight.  The Brazilian recently earned his first victory after being out of action for more than two years.  Mein has gone 2-1 in his three fights inside the Octagon.

Also on the card will be a featherweight matchup between Tom Niinimaki and Chas Skelly, along with a flyweight affair between Tim Elliott and Wilson Reis.

Currently there has not been a main event announced.  UFC Fight Night 49 will take place from Tulsa, Okla. on August 23.

Castillo to meet Ferguson at UFC 176

Tony Ferguson, the winner of season thirteen of The Ultimate Fighter has a new opponent, and that is Team Alpha Male fighter Danny Castillo.  Castillo is coming off of a strong performance after he defeated Charlie Brenneman at UFC 172, while Ferguson has won two straight, and has gone 5-1 inside the Octagon.

UFC 176 takes place in Los Angeles on Aug. 2.

Barberena to replace Case

With Johnny Case having to withdraw from his fight against Joe Ellenberger on June 28 at UFC Fight Night 44, it will be Bryan Barberena filling in.  Barberena trains at the MMA Lab in Arizona, and currently holds a professional record of 9-2.

“The Hammer” out at WSOF 11

Matt Hamill has suffered an injury, and therefore has been removed from the WSOF 11 card, which is scheduled to take place on July 5.  While the details of the injury are unclear, it is known that it is some form of a knee injury that “The Hammer” suffered.

WSOF 11 is scheduled to take place from Daytona, Fla. and will be the first time the promotion is aired live on NBC.

Hallman to replace injured Burkman

A scheduled trilogy bout between Josh Burkman and Jon Fitch will have to wait as an injury to Burkman has forced him off of the card at WSOF 11.  It will be Dennis Hallman stepping in to fill the shoes, which will mark the fourth scheduled opponent for Fitch.  Originally, Fitch was going to oppose Rousimar Palhares for the championship, then Jake Shields filled in for the Brazilian until he had to be removed from the card, who was then replaced by Burkman.

This fight will be Hallman’s debut in WSOF.

UFC Fight Night 47 adds two fights

The UFC will roll into Maine this August, and the first two fights on the card have been announced, and one of which will feature local fighter Tim Boetsch.  “The Barbarian” will be squaring off with Brad Tavares, who recently had a five fight winning streak stopped by the hands of Yoel Romero.  Tavares will look to continue his winning ways as he will enter hostile territory.

Also on the card will be a heavyweight matchup, as Shawn Jordan will take on Jack May.  Both fighters were knocked out in their last fight, and Jordan has been knocked out in his last two fights.  The knockout that May suffered was in his debut fight with the promotion.

UFC Fight Night 47 will take place on August 16 from Bangor, Maine.

Ortega vs. De La Torre joins UFC on Fox 12 lineup

Brian Ortega and Mike De La Torre will lock horns when the Octagon rolls into San Jose in July.  The two fighters will both be seeking their first UFC victory, as “El Cucuy” lost in his last fight which was his UFC debut, and Ortega will be making his Octagon debut in this fight.

Ortega enters the cage with a perfect 8-0 record, having won the Resurrection Fighting Alliance featherweight championship in his last fight.

Houston replaces Bryant at Battleground MMA event

Josh Bryant has suffered and injury and will be unable to compete in the upcoming Battleground MMA eight-man one-night tournament.  Trey Houston will fill in spot left available after the withdraw from Bryant.

In addition to the change, a reserve bout has been announced where Marcus Sanchez will take on Jordan Smith.  If one of the fighters who advances to the semifinal round of the tournament is unable to continue, the winner of Sanchez and Smith will take that fighters spot in the tournament.

Battleground MMA O.N.E. takes place on Friday, June 27 from Tusla, Okla.
