On Sunday, July 6, the UFC hosted The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

In the night’s main event, a pair of former champions met for a third time as former lightweight kingpin Frankie Edgar locked horns with former lightweight and welterweight title holder B.J. Penn. The pair served as coaches on the 19th season of the UFC’s flagship reality series, The Ultimate Fighter.

Edgar and Penn had met twice before with the promotion’s lightweight title on the line. Edgar bested Penn via controversial decision in the pair’s first meeting at UFC 112 in 2010. Edgar then cruised to a lopsided decision win at UFC 118 later that year. Since then, both fighters found mixed results inside the Octagon.

At UFC 162 in July, Edgar got back in the win column with a “Fight of the Night” battle against Charles Oliveira. Penn, meanwhile, moved back to welterweight following his losses to Edgar. The Hawaiian fell short on the scorecards against Rory MacDonald. The former two-division title holder dropped to featherweight for the first time in his career for his trilogy with Edgar.

Also on the main card, the promotion crowned new TUF champions at middleweight and light heavyweight. In the 185-pound final, Eddie Gordon took on Dhiego Lima, while the 205-pound final featured Corey Anderson vs. Matt Van Buren.

The 11-fight event kicked off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET with two bouts streaming live on the promotion’s digital network, UFC Fight Pass. Four additional bouts followed on Fox Sports 1 at 7 p.m. ET, with the five-fight main card beginning at 9 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.
