UFC 177 news and notes

It seems Henry Cejudo will see Octagon action sooner than later. Originally planned for an upcoming Legacy FC, Cejudo will instead take his Olympic pedigree and his undefeated streak to UFC 177 in Sacramento, where he will make his UFC debut against Scott Jorgensen. The former WEC bantamweight title challenger will come off of a win over Danny Martinez to welcome Cejudo to the UFC.

Also, Ruslan Magomedov and Richard Odoms will join a solid lineup as part of UFC 177 this August. Magomedov made a successful UFC debut earlier this year opposite Viktor Pesta and looks for his second-straight UFC win. Meanwhile, Odoms’s most recent win, which came over D.J. Linderman, earned him the opportunity to debut on the UFC stage.

UFN 53 news and notes

Ernest Chavez will look to return to the win column when he travels to Stockholm this October to face Zubaira Tukhugov as part of UFC Fight Night: Sweden. Chavez recently suffered a third-round submission loss to Elias Silverio, which came after making a successful UFC debut at UFC 170 earlier this year.  The bout joins previously-announced bouts of Nicholas Musoke vs. Amir Sadollah, and Niklas Backstrom vs. Mike Wilkinson.

Riggs returns to UFC, meets Thiago at UFN 51

In addition to a headliner of Andrei Arlovski vs. Antonio Silva, this September’s UFC Fight Night 51 card will also feature a contest between Brazilian standout Paulo Thiago and returning UFC veteran Joe Riggs. Riggs comes off of his win over Mike Bronzoulis, in which the UFC vet won Bellator MMA’s “Fight Master” series, and fills in for an injured Mike Rhodes. Meanwhile, Thiago recently signed on for four more fights in the UFC, but has lost six of his last eight bouts.
