The MMA Corner has learned through sources close to the event, that Ben Nguyen will be defending his bantamweight title against Reece McLaren. Nguyen, who won the belt with a spectacular knockout over Julian “Julz The Jackal” Rabaud, has been unbeaten in his past five bouts, with his last defeat coming in 2010. The American, who is now based in Australia, often fights in the flyweight division but with limited opponents in his weight class, has opted to continue to take fights in the bantamweight division and is unbeaten on Australian shores. The fight will mark the first appearance for McLaren under the Nitro banner and he enters the fight with back-to-back stoppage victories over Kian Pham and Shantaram Maharaj. In his last bout, McLaren won the Eternal MMA bantamweight title and the Toowoomba-based fighter is a proven finisher, only seeing the scorecards once in his seven-fight career as a professional. Earlier this week, a lightweight title fight between Gokhan Turkyilmaz and Isaac Tisdell was also announced for the card. More fights are set to be announced in the coming weeks.
