Newton-Beltran headlines Bellator 124

Bellator light-heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton will make the first defense of his title against Joey Beltran at Bellator 124 this September in Michigan. Newton won the title from Attila Vegh, scoring a unanimous-decision win and avenging a controversial loss to Vegh. Meanwhile, Beltran secured a submission win over Vladimir Matyushenko earlier this year, marking his first win in Bellator MMA.

Shields headlines WSOF 14 in Canada, faces Ryan Ford

Jake Shields will make his WSOF debut in enemy territory when he faces one Ryan Ford at WSOF 14 on Oct. 11th at the Northlands Expo Centre live on the NBC Sports Network. Shields’ WSOF debut comes on the heels of his UFC 171 loss to Hector Lombard, but he will still present Ford’s toughest challenge to date. Ford, meanwhile, has scored wins in ten of his last 11 bouts inside the cage.

Caceres replaces Faber, meets Kanehara at UFC Fight Night Japan

Urijah Faber, fresh off of his UFC 175 win over Alex Caceres, planned on welcoming Masanori Kanehara to the UFC at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Nelson on Sept. 20. However, an injury will prevent Faber from competing  in the Saitama Super Arena against Kanehara. As a result, and in a bit of an ironic twist, Caceres will replace Faber to combat Kanehara, who recently suffered a DQ loss at DEEP: Impact 66.

UFC 175 buyrates

Putting undefeated UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman on the same bill as undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey paid off once again for the UFC, as UFC 175 has done somewhere between 500,000 and 545,000 buys. If the final number falls in this range, it will mark the UF’C’s most successful show since UFC 168. On that UFC 175, Weidman scored a unanimous-decision win over Lyoto Machida, while Rousey scored a 16-second finish of Alexis Davis.

Pendred meets Umalatov in Stockholm

Cathal Pendred, fresh off his win over Mike King in Dublin at UFC Fight Night 46, will see action in Stockholm this October when he meets Gasan Umalatov. Pendred’s win over King put him up to 8-0-1 in his past nine fights. Umalatov scored his first UFC win over Paulo Thiago at the TUF Brazil 3 Finale
