On Saturday August, 23 the UFC held UFC Fight Night 48: Bisping vs. Le from the Ventian Cotai Arena.

In the main event of the evening middleweights, Michael Bisping and Cung Le, clashed in a battle to move back into title contention. This could be Bisping’s (24-6) last chance to start a run towards the middleweight title. Bisping has been a perennial contender for years, but has never crossed the threshold into getting a title shot. The Brit has rotated wins and losses in his last five bouts. He most recently dropped a decision to Tim Kennedy after a nearly year long layoff due to eye surgery. Le (9-2) was fighting for the first time in nearly two years. Le had won his last two UFC bouts since dropping his first bout against Wanderlei Silva. Le’s last appearance came in the UFC’s first trip to China where he knocked  out Rich Franklin with one punch.

In the night’s co-main event we saw an interesting clash of styles at welterweight when Tyron Woodley takes on Dong Hyun Kim. Kim (19-2-1) had never been closer to a title shot. The Korean had won four straight against the likes of Erick Silva and John Hatthaway and Kim’s last loss before that came due to an unfortunate rib injury against Demian Maia. His opponent in this bout was the higher ranked Tyron Woodley. Woodley was looking for redemption in this bout after putting on a lackluster performance in his last bout against Rory MacDonald. Woodley was stepping in to this fight on somewhat short notice after Hector Lombard had to pull out due to an injury. Woodley looked to get back to his  roots and use his stellar wrestling against Kim’s excellent judo.

The rest of the main card featured undefeated Australian, Brendan O’Reily facing off with Chinese fighter, Lipeng Zhang at 155 pounds. The first fight on the main card was the final of the second season of The Ultimate Fighter China between featherweights, Guangyou Ning and Jianping Yang.

The entire fight card aired on UFC Fight Pass with the prelims starting at 6:30 am ET and the main card at 9 am ET.
