Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will finally make his long-awaited return to the octagon.

On Friday the UFC officially announced ‘Cigano’ would squaring off against the surging Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC on FOX 13 in December.

Dos Santos (16-3), currently the number three ranked heavyweight according the The MMA Corner fighter rankings, has not been seen inside a UFC cage since suffering a one-sided beatdown at the hands of UFC heavyweight champion, and longtime rival, Cain Velasquez in their title fight at UFC 166 last October. He was originally scheduled to face Miocic in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale before a broken hand forced him to withdraw from the bout.

Miocic (12-1), currently ranked number six, is coming off a violent first round knockout over dos Santos’ replacement Fabio Maldonado. Prior to this win the Croatian scored back-to-back decision wins over Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga. To date, his only blemish is a second round TKO loss to Stefan Struve back at UFC on Fuel TV 5 in September 2012.

UFC on FOX 13 is currently scheduled to take place on December 13 at the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix.
