On Friday, September 26, Titan Fighting Championship held their 30th event at The Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, TX. The main card action kicked off at 10 pm EST on The CBS Sports Network and the preliminary card started at 6 PM EST and aired on CBSSports.com.

Headlining the event was a light heavyweight title bout for the Titan FC’s inaugural light heavyweight title between UFC veterans Vinny Magalhaes and Jason Brilz. Co-headlining the event was a bantamweight feature bout between Anthony Gutierrez and Walel Watson.

Magalhaes (11-7, 1NC) made his Titan FC debut tonight against Brilz (22-5-1). Magalhaes was 1-2 in his last three fights, winning his most recent bout against Jorge Gonzalez at Xtreme Kombat 24. Brilz is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming over Raphael Davis at Titan FC 28. Both fighters came out ready to fight. This fight was a ground fighter’s dream as the action went back and forth for 3 rounds with both fighters having the opportunity for finishes. It was Magalhaes that was able to get the better of the striking in the fourth round and land a head kick that wobbled Brilz, allowing Magalhaes to move in for the finish and get the submission victory and Titan FC’s inaugural light heavyweight title.

Gutierrez (5-0), a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter 18, The Ultimate Fighter 18, put his undefeated record on the line tonight when he faced Watson (12-7). Watson wanted to prove that he is the better fighter and he deserves all of the attention. Gutierrez started off strong dropping Watson with the first real punch he threw and then swarmed all over him landing vicious ground and pound, looking for the finish. Watson showed a ton of heart as he survived the onslaught. Watson continued to battle through the beating being handed out by Gutierrez and out of nowhere was able to pull off the triangle choke and get Gutierrez to tap out in the first round.

In other main card action, Gleristone “Toninho Furia” Santos faced Robert Washington in a 150 lb catch weight bout that went back and forth with “Toninho Furia” doing enough to win on 2 of the 3 judges score cards, earning him the split decision; welterweights clashed when Le’Ville Simpson dominated Richie “Boogey Man” Martinez defeating him by TKO in the first round and Pedro Nobre defeated Nick Honstein by split decision in a 130lb catch weight fight that was arguably the best fight on the night. The fight went back and forth with both guys attempting submissions and clearly winning points, but ultimately it was Nombre that 2 of 3 judges gave the victory to.
