For the nightcap of an MMA doubleheader, the UFC heads to the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, for UFC Fight Night 54 on October 4.

While two early preliminary bouts will be aired on UFC Fight Pass, the majority of this card will be available to fans for free on Fox Sports 1, and it features two fights with potential title implications.

Chad Laprise

Laprise will be making his first Octagon appearance since winning the welterweight tournament during The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia. Laprise will be making his UFC lightweight debut against dangerous knockout artist, Yosdenis Cedeno. Laprise has the potential to make waves in the deep water that is the UFC lightweight division.

Raphael Assuncao vs. Bryan Caraway

If you are a fan of high level MMA grappling, then the bantamweight bout between Assuncao and Caraway should be circled on your calendar as they have a combined 27 career submission victories. Now that Dominick Cruz is back in the mix, the UFC bantamweight division has become extremely interesting. Assuncao is 6-0 since dropping to bantamweight, and he is the last person to beat current champion, T.J. Dillashaw. A win over Caraway puts him in an ideal position for a title shot.

Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine

The UFC welterweight division is one of the most competitive divisions in all of MMA, and because of that, the UFC title picture can get a little cloudy at times. Currently, welterweight champ, Johny Hendricks, and number one contender, Robbie Lawler, are head-and-shoulders above the rest of the division. However, after their upcoming rematch at UFC 181, the door is wide open for a new challenger to emerge.

MacDonald and Saffiedine are at the top of the list in terms of new potential challengers. MacDonald is the more well-rounded of the two, and his ground game is much better. Saffiedine is the more skilled striker along with his takedown defense which is top notch. The winner of this bout will have earned a title shot.
