On Saturday October 4, the UFC held UFC Fight Night 53: Nelson vs. Story from the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweeden.

In the night’s main event, Gunnar Nelson got a main event showcase against Rick Story. Nelson is the closest thing that the UFC will see to a welterweight Fedor. Nelson is undefeated in fourteen professional bouts. His four bouts in the UFC have been stellar he has three submission wins in those four fights and most recently dominated the bigger Zak Cummings before choking him out in the second.

Story was Nelson’s toughest test to date. Story is a veteran of sixteen UFC bouts and has always been known for his toughness. Story is even the only other man to defeat Johnny Hendricks other than Georges St. Pierre. Lately, Story has been alternating wins and losses and is coming off of an arm triangle choke victory in July.

Also, on the same night, the UFC held UFC Fight Night 54: MacDonald vs. Saffiedine from the Halifax Metro Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada.

In the night’s main event fast rising welterweights look to draw closer to a title shot. Canada’s own Rory MacDonald went head-to-head with Belgium’s Tarev Saffiedine. MacDonald finally got his first headlining shot in the UFC. MacDonald has long been considered one of the best at welterweight but has come up short in the big spots. This year MacDonald has looked phenomenal with victories over Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley.

Saffiedine was the final Strikeforce welterweight champion and finally made his UFC debut back in January. In that debut,“Sponge” battered Hyun Gyu Lim with leg kicks for 25 minutes en route to a unanimous decision victory.
