On Friday, World Series of Fighting announced a welterweight title fight between recently crowned champion Rousimar Palhares and fellow UFC veteran Jon Fitch is set to headline WSOF 16 in December.

Palhares (16-6) is coming off a 69 second submission victory over Steve Carl in their title bout at WSOF 9 in March. He was originally scheduled to put his belt on the line against Fitch at WSOF 11 but he pulled out of the fight in order to take care of his ailing mother. He will enter this bout with 13 career submission wins.

Fitch (26-6-1), a former UFC title contender, earned his shot at WSOF gold after scoring back-to-back decision wins over Marcelo Alfaya and Dennis Hallman. These two wins came after Fitch suffered a first round submission loss in his promotional debut to Josh Burkman at WSOF 3 in June 2013. He will enter this bout with 17 career decision wins.

A city and venue for the event have yet to be named.
