Conor McGregor (Esther Lin/MMA Fighting)Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver set to headline UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston José Youngs October 24, 2014 News It looks like all the talk of Conor McGregor challenging for the UFC featherweight title in his next bout can officially be put to rest. According to reports, the UFC has booked a featherweight matchup between Irish superstar Conor McGregor and German striker Dennis Siver as the headlining act of UFC Fight Nigh 59 at the TD Garden in Boston. MMAJunkie was the first to report the news. McGregor (16-2), a former Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight champion, is coming off a blistering performance where fans saw him stop Dustin Poirier with strikes less than two minutes into their UFC 178 matchup in September. This pushed his win streak to 12 straight, which includes three first round knockouts under the UFC banner. It was originally thought the brash talking Irishman would skip the line at 145-pounds and face the winner of the title fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes this weekend at UFC 179. However, it was later revealed by McGregor himself he was looking to face one more opponent before fighting for the belt he claims is already his. His opponent, Siver (22-9), who earlier this month told KammakazeTV he would relish the opportunity to meet McGregor in the Octagon, is coming off decision victory over Charles Rosa at UFC Fight Night 53 earlier this month. It should be noted both men were awarded Fight of the Night for their performance. Prior to this win, the German kickboxer saw his decision victory over Manny Gamburyan at UFC 168 ruled a no contest after it was revealed Siver tested positive for banned substances in his post fight drug test. He will enter this bout with 14 career stoppage victories and a UFC record of 11-6. No other fights have been announced for the card.
