The Las Vegas Review Journal was the first to report the news. Marquardt (33-13-2), a former Strikeforce welterweight champion, is coming off an impressive first round submission victory over James Te Huna in their middleweight matchup at UFC Fight Night 43 in June. Prior this victory, the man known as ‘The Great’ suffered back-to-back knockout losses as a member of the UFC’s welterweight division, prompting the former middleweight contender to move back up to 185-pounds. He will enter this bout with a 16 career submission victories and a UFC record of 11-6. Tavares (12-3), a member of Team Liddell during 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter, was last seen on the receiving end of a second round knockout to Tim Boetsch at UFC Fight Night 47 in August. This marked the second straight loss for the Hawaiian after starting off his UFC career with victories earning victories in seven of his first eight bouts. UFC 182 is currently scheduled to take place on Jan. 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will serve as the night’s main event, while a UFC women’s bantamweight championship bout between Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano will serve as the co-main event.
