Pineda came out strong and took Garcia to the ground quickly and with short time he was able to get the career finishing Kimura. That submission was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Garcia, a fan favorite for his exciting finishes, recently lost to Damon Martin and with his loss to Daniel Pineda, it’s apparent that he has fallen behind the curve that is the evolution of mixed martial arts. In his retirement speech he made mention of some interest in kickboxing, so don’t be surprised if you see him fighting again soon — it just won’t be in MMA. Though his fall from grace has been steep and painful, he has provided the sport with many memories and many great fights. There is no question that he left his mark and will always be remembered as someone that contributed to the sport.
