On Wednesday afternoon, the UFC announced Ashlee Evans-Smith will replace the injured Holly Holm against Raquel Pennington at UFC 181 in December. This news comes only a few days after it was revealed Holm’s had suffered a neck injury in training camp, which ultimately forced her out of her highly anticipated UFC debut.

Evans-Smith (3-0), who will be making her promotional debut, was last seen picking up a third TKO victory over Arciea Allen at WSOF 10 in June. Prior to this win, fans saw the 27-year-old walk away with what could very well be the biggest win of her young career in the form of a shocking third round TKO victory over the polarizing transgender fighter Fallen Fox in the final round of the CFA 12 tournament in October 2013.

Pennington (4-4), a semifinalist on TUF 18, will be coming off a close split decision loss to Jéssica Andrade at UFC 171 in March. Prior to this loss, ‘Rocky’ earned a unanimous decision victory in her UFC debut against women’s MMA pioneer Roxanne Modafferi at the TUF 18 Finale in November 2013.

UFC 181 is scheduled to take place on December 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. A welterweight title fight between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler will serve as the night’s main event while a lightweight title fight between Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez will serve as the co-main event.
