(Dean Marchand/Sherdog)ONE FC 23: Warrior’s Way Recap and Results: Fernandes Defends His Title, Vera Scores a TKO RJ Gardner December 4, 2014 Events, News, Recaps, Spotlight ONE FC 23: Warrior’s Way took place on Friday, December 5th from the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. In the main event of the evening, Bibiano Fernandes was slated to defend his bantamweight title against Dae Hwan Kim. Fernandes has long been considered one of, if not the best, bantamweight outside of the UFC. Fernandes has won seven straight fights including three straight five-rounder bouts inside the ONE FC cage. Kim has never been beaten and only has one draw on his record in eleven fights. Kim has finished three straight fights, including his last two via rear-naked choke. In the night’s co-main event, UFC veteran Brandon Vera makes his ONE FC debut against Igor Subora. Vera was once considered the next superstar at heavyweight, but he never fully realized that potential in the UFC. After another less than stellar run at light heavyweight he moved back up to heavyweight for a fight with Ben Rothwell. Vera lost in that one and was released from his contract. Vera had numerous options, but chose ONE FC. Vera is not getting an easy fight in his first bout with the promotion. Igor Subora lost his professional debut, but has since won five straight bouts and has never been out of the first round. Other notable fights include James McSweeny and Roger Gracie. The ten fight main card airs on internet pay-per-view and starts streaming bright and early at 5 a.m. ET. A full recap and results are below. Main Card Summary In the co-main event UFC veteran Brandon “The Truth” Vera overwhelmed Igor Subora in his ONE FC debut. Vera’s striking game was just too much for Subora to handle. After landing a head kick in the opening minute of the bout Vera just kept the pressure on Subora eventually dropping him with a straight left and finishing the bout with soccer kicks. In the main event ONE FC bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes came out fast and furious bringing the fight to Dae Hwan Kim. Kim’s speed and scrambling ability kept him in the bout early but in the second round Kim turned his back on the feet and Fernandes jumped on him. Fernandes took his back, brought him to the ground and finished the bout with a rear naked choke. FULL RESULTSBibiano Fernandes def. Dae Hwan Kim by Submission (rear naked choke). Round 2, 1:16.
