Just when it looked like Anthony Pettis’ string of bad luck was about to run out, the Nevada State Athletic Commission slaps him with a potential six months medical suspension. The lightweight champion, who walked away with a second round submission win over Gilbert Melendez in the co-main event of UFC 181, will require a doctor’s clearance on his left hand following a mandatory x-ray. If the results come back positive, the often injured champion will be forced to sit out until June 6.

This comes as a major blow to both the UFC and the fans as the incredibly popular Pettis already missed more than a year of action due to an injured knee before making his return against Melendez.

Abel Trujillo, who suffered a second-round submission loss to Tony Ferguson, also faces up to six months on the shelf unless he can get a doctor’s clearance on his fractured nose.

UFC 181 took place on December 6, 2014, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. The entire list of medical suspension can be found below:

  • Eddie Gordon: Requires post-concussive clearance from neurologist or sports medicine doctor prior to starting contact training; minimum suspension no contest until March 7, no contact until Feb. 5
  • Brendan Schaub: Suspended until Feb. 5, no contact until Jan. 21
  • Anthony Hamilton: Suspended until Jan. 21, no contact until Jan. 6
  • Tony Ferguson: Suspended until Jan. 21, no contact until Jan. 6
  • Raquel Pennington: Suspended until Jan. 21, no contact until Jan. 6
  • Todd Duffee: Suspended until Jan. 6, no contact until Dec. 28
  • Matt Hobar: Suspended until Jan. 6, no contact until Dec. 28
  • Sergio Pettis: Suspended until Jan. 6, no contact until Dec. 28
  • Clay Collard: Requires orthopedic clearance on left forearm or no contest until June 6; minimum suspension no contest until Jan. 6, no contact until Dec. 28
  • Alex White: Suspended until Jan. 6, no contact until Dec. 28
