Starting the year off in grand fashion, World Series of Fighting 17 looks to continue the franchise’s momentum from 2014 which has quickly became the driving force in must watch MMA action.

Live from the Plant Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada the main event attraction features an epic welterweight confrontation as former Strikeforce & UFC champion Jake Shields (30-7) takes on UFC veteran Brian Foster (22-6). Both men should have every incentive to emerge victorious as the winner of this encounter will stake his position as the number one contender for the WSOF welterweight title currently held by Rousimar Palhares.

In his promotion debut back at WSOF 17, Shields reminded everyone of his rank as world class competitor with a first round submission victory over top Canadian welterweight Ryan Ford. Shield’s departure from the UFC served as an open opportunity to rebrand his career at the WSOF, a venture he has embraced fully to his goal of reigning supreme in the welterweight division and capturing the belt. With battles against many diverse fighting styles at the world class level, the Gracie fighter enters this fight as the more experienced of the two and equipped with a deadly submission game capable of putting away any opponent.

A fighter built for adversity, there seems to be nothing stopping Foster from fulfilling his destiny to becoming a champion. Foster has been on fire entering into this bout with a four fight winning streak as he is finally back competing on a major platform at the WSOF. Heavy knockout power, strong wrestling base and a burning passion for success are present and essentials that Foster possess.

Foster goes into this fight as the heavy underdog. However don’t count him out because he has the heart to stand toe-to-toe with the best of them.
