Frank Mir (Tracy Lee/Yahoo Sports)A Look Ahead: This Week In MMA 2/16 Through 2/22 Trey Downey February 17, 2015 Events, News We are coming off one of the best fights in recent memory after Benson Henderson and Brandon Thatch put on a Valentine’s Day classic. The UFC will get back at it again this weekend with another Fight Night card on Fox Sports 1. Bellator will take the week off this weekend to gear up for their huge British Invasion card next weekend, so the UFC has the sole fight card this time out. But, even more interesting than the fight card down in Brazil is the UFC holding a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the recent slew of drug test failures by their top stars and what they will do to prevent this from happening in the future. Dana White was noncommittal in answering any questions about the test failures after the Fight Night in Colorado this past weekend, but promised reporters they will get answers on Wednesday. Before we get to Wednesday let’s take a look at what the UFC will offer us this weekend. UFC Fight Night 61 The onslaught of UFC events continues this weekend. For the second time this year fighters will take to the octagon on a Sunday night. The UFC has seen ratings success with the Conor McGregor-Denis Siver fight as well as the second fight between Shogun Rua and Dan Henderson on Sunday nights so if this one is another slam dunk we could see even more of these Sunday night cards. This time out a heavyweight tilt takes top billing as Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva faces Frank Mir. The card was originally scheduled to be headlined by Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira, but injuries to both fighters forced the cancellation of that fight and Bigfoot and Mir Moved up to the main event slot. Mir will likely be fighting for his career in this one as the former UFC champion has lost four straight fights. Mir will likely be highly motivated to get the win in enemy territory especially in hopes of sticking around with rumors of a Brock Lesnar return swirling. Silva will also be searching for his first win in a very long time after Andrei Arlovski upset him last September. Let’s take a look at the full fight card below. Main Card Frank Mir vs. Antonio Silva Edson Barboza vs. Michael Johnson Sam Alvey vs. Cezar Ferreira Rustam Khabilov vs. Adriano Martins Iuri Alcantara vs. Frankie Saenz Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Jessica Andrade vs. Marion Reneau Matt Dwyer vs. William Macario Mike De La Torre vs. Tiago Trator Wendell Oliveira vs. T.J. Waldburger Cody Gibson vs. Douglas Silva Ivan Jorge vs. Josh Shockley We might have to wait an extra day for this fight card, but it should be worth the wait. Stay tuned all week long as The MMA Corner will continue to give you the best coverage and breakdowns of this UFC card and the big press conference on Wednesday.
