Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in MMA. Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week.

Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week.

This week’s Fight of the Week is the RFA welterweight title fight between Benjamin Smith and Indalecio Tat Romero.

On Friday, March 6, 2015, a welterweight champion will be crowned as the RFA heads to the Mystic Lake Casino & Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn. for RFA 24: Smith vs. Romero.

A pro since 2012, Smith has already amassed a record of 13-2. Smith has wasted no time as he realizes at 34 his window for success in MMA is only going to get smaller. Smith heads into RFA 24 riding a five fight win streak that includes two stoppage victories.

Romero on the other hand is a long time MMA veteran having debuted in September of 2004. With over 10 year and 29 pro bouts under his belt, Romero will have a substantial experience advantage on Friday night. Romero heads into RFA 24 with a winning streak of his own having won six straight including five by stoppage.

Even though Smith has found a lot of success early in his career, his inability to finish fights is going to hurt him against Romero. Having won 21 of 24 by stoppage, Romero knows how to put people away and his 13 first round stoppages means he knows how to do it quickly.

If Smith can drag Romero into the deeper waters of the fight, he could grind out the win. But if Romero jumps on Smith early and pressures him, it could be a short night.
