On Saturday, March 28, 2015, the World Series of Fighting heads to Comerica Theatre in Phoenix for WSOF 19: Gaethje vs. Palomino. Featured in the main event of the evening, WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje will look to defend his title against tough veteran Luis Palomino.

For Gaethje, this bout is all about proving he is a force to be reckoned with. Undefeated at 13-0 with 11 wins by way of stoppage, the 26-year-old is one of the most underrated fighters in the world today. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page for god’s sake. All Gaethje does is win and this will be a great opportunity to showcase his skill set.

But he can’t take Palomino lightly. Palomino’s career has seen its ups and downs but back-to-back knockouts inside of the WSOF cage have earned him this title shot. A BJJ black belt with vicious knockout power, Palomino will be the most complete fighter Gaethje has ever faced.

Striking

Gaethje and Palomino both like to keep things standing and both are extremely dangerous on the feet. With 23 combined wins by knockout there’s a really good chance someone is going to sleep on Saturday night. Palomino is the more powerful of the two but Gaethje is the more technical.

Advantage: Gaethje

Grappling

Palomino is no slouch when it comes to grappling, but Gaethje is the better wrestler and the better all-around athlete. If and when there are grappling exchanges in this bout, expect to see Gaethje get the better of them.

Advantage: Gaethje

Submissions

Gaethje may be the better grappler, but when it comes to submission, Palomino has the advantage. A black belt in BJJ, Palomino has a pretty solid submission game even though he doesn’t show it much in the cage.

X factors

Palomino’s X Factor is his power. Palomino has the kind of power that can change the complexion of a fight. Gaethje has yet to lose in his MMA career, but Palomino’s power could change that with one blow.

Gaethje’s X Factor is his momentum. Even though he is flying under the radar of the casual fan base, Gaethje is one of the best young talents in the sport today. With an undefeated record, Gaethje simply doesn’t know how to lose at this point and that kind of confidence can be a dangerous weapon.

Prediction: Gaethje via third round TKO
