On Wednesday afternoon, Belaltor MMA officially inked former UFC light heavyweight standout Phil Davis to an exclusive multi-fight deal. This news came after an initial report from MMASun revealed Davis was close to reaching an agreement with the California based fight promotion

Davis (13-3), who earned the 2008 NCAA National Wrestling Champion during his senior year at Penn State, was last seen on the wrong end of a close split decision loss to Ryan Bader at UFC on FOX 14 in January. Prior to this setback, ans saw  ‘Mr. Wonderful come outgrapple former title contender Glover Teixeira en route to a unanimous decision victory. This performance got Davis back into the win column after seeing his four fight unbeaten streak snapped when in the form of a lopsided decision to the current number one contender Anthony Johnson at UFC 172.

“I can’t wait to be fighting in Bellator and wreck shop on everyone,” stated Davis in a press release. “I am the absolute best and most dominant grappler to ever fight in MMA and I’m excited to get in there and compete at my new home.”

During his run with the UFC, fans saw Davis earn a slew of victories over some of the biggest names in MMA including Antônio Rogério, Brian Stann, former title contenders Alexander Gustafsson and Teixeira as well as former champion Lyoto Machida.

A member of Alliance MMA in San Diego, Calif., where he trains alongside Bellator stars like Michael Chandler and Joey Beltran, “Mr. Wonderful” joins the promotions Light Heavyweight division, which is currently upheld by champion Liam McGeary.

“Phil is a world class Mixed Martial Artist and we are very happy to be adding him to OUR roster of some of the best Light Heavyweights in the world,” stated Bellator MMA president Scott Coker. “Bellator remains fully committed to building its world-class roster by signing top free agents like Davis, as well as grooming up-and-coming stars. We’ve got some amazing matchups in mind for ‘Mr. Wonderful’ that we will be announcing in the weeks to come.”

There is no word on who Davis’ first Bellator opponent will be.
