Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week. Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week. This week’s Fight of the Week is the UFC middleweight showdown between Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold. On Saturday, April 18, 2015, the UFC will head to the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. for UFC on Fox: Machida vs Rockhold where two middleweight contenders will collide to make their case for a shot at the UFC middleweight title. Machida may only be one fight removed from his failed bid, but the UFC middleweight title but because of his resume, he is always within striking distance. The former UFC light heavyweight champion made the move down to middleweight late in 2013 and has since gone 3-1; with his only loss coming at the hands of champion Chris Weidman. Then you have Rockhold. After getting knocked out by perennial contender, Vitor Belfort, in his UFC debut, Rockhold has rattled off three straight victories; all by way of stoppage. A win over a fighter of Machida’s caliber would all but guarantee Rockhold the next shot at the middleweight champ. Even though Machida seems to have all of the advantages on paper, Rockhold is coming into his own as a fighter. Considering Machida has taken home a post-fight bonus in his last four outings and Rockhold has won three straight bonuses, fans can expect to see an exciting affair.
