On Thursday afternoon, it was revealed, UFC lightweight Donald Cerrone will now face John Makdessi at UFC 187.  This new comes one day after Cerrone’s original opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov forced him out off the highly anticipated bout with a knee injury.

Makdessi (13-3). a Tristar product, has been frequent name in the headlines as of late due to his role in the Fear the Fighter sponsorship controversy involving several of his fellow UFC fighter.  In hist most recent effort inside the Octagon, ‘The Bull’ scored one the biggest win of his career in the form of a first round TKO over promotional newcomer Shane Campbell at UFC 186 last weekend. This got him back in the win column after dropping a decision to Alan Patrick at UFC 169.

Cerrone (27-6) is coming off a razor-thin unanimous decision over former champion Benson Henderson in the co-main event of UFC FIght Night 59 last month. This victory extended Cerrone’s already impressive six fight win streak. Prior to his this win,  ‘Cowboy’ scored back-to-back decision wins over then undefeated Myles Jury and former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. Cerrone had previously rattled off four straight stoppage victories before these two decision, earning a post fight bonus in each of them. He currently holds 19 career stoppage wins, including 15 by way of submission, and a UFC record of 14-3.

UFC 187 is currently scheduled to take place on May 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A light heavyweight title fight between former U.S. Olympic wrestling captain Daniel COrmier and the hard hitting Anthony Johnson will serve as the headlining act of the card with a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort taking place in the co-main event.
