On Saturday, June 13, the UFC will touch down in Mexico City to bring fight fans UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum, live from the Arena Ciudad de México.

Headlining the bout will be a heavyweight title fight between reigning champion Cain Velasquez and Interim champion Fabrio Werdum

The two were Velasquez scheduled to meet at UFC 180 last November, following their coaching stints on TUF: Latin American, before a knee injury forced the champion out of the bout.

Werdum (18-5-1) would go on to defeat Velasquez’s replacement Mark Hunt by way of second round TKO, earning the interim heavyweight title in the process. Velasquez (13-1), on the otherhand, has not been seen since decimating long time rival Junior dos Santos with a violent fifth round TKO at UFC 166 in October 2013. Following this bout, the former Arizona State wrestling All-American was sidelined with a shoulder injury for the several months, before finally pulling out his fight with Werdum after tearing his meniscus.

All this plus a lightweight grudge matchup former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez and former Bellator Champion Eddie Alvarez, a middleweight clash between TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum and former UFC title contender Nate Marquardt, a featherweight bout between Yair Rodriguez and Charles Rosa as well as a women’s strawweight contest between TUF 20 cast members Tecia Torres and Angela Hill.
