Is Bellator creating a female flyweight division?

Bellator 140 will take place Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Bellator added a female matchup for this event on the preliminary card. Sarah “Soulja” Payant will fight Kaline Medeiros. Both of these fighters are flyweights. Does this mean Bellator is revamping up its female 125 lbs division? We can only hope, and if they are, who else should Bellator sign at flyweight? Most of the top 125 lbs. females are signed with Invicta or XFC, but there is a few waiting for their opportunity to be signed with a big promotion.

Shayna Baszler: The former UFC veteran is 15-10 and normally fights at 135 lbs. Could a drop to 125lb and signing with Bellator save her career? It certainly doesn’t hurt to entertain the idea.

Reina Cordoba: An impressive 8-0 record gain recognition, and based on her outings, she’s extremely well-rounded.

Emily Corso: With a record of 4-0, Corso has defeated all over opponents by way of submission. She is listed as a bantamweight but has fought at flyweight in the past.

Katlyn Chookagian: Another prospect who holds an undefeated record, Chookagian is at 5’9”. She also had an impressive amateur run thus far in her career.

Jessica Doerner: One of the more dangerous flyweights in the world, Doerner is 5-3 with all five wins coming by way of TKO.
